Ballonsportgruppe Stuttgart (Balloon Sport Association Stuttgart)
History:
The club was founded in 1950 as a successor to the
"Badenwuerttembergischer Verein fuer Luftschifffahrt"
(Association for the Aerial Navigation of Baden Wuerttemberg)
which existed since 1908.
Before World War II the club was mainly involved with gas
balloons (hydrogen).
Since 1960 involvement and development of hot
air balloon techniques became more and more important.
Objectives:
The objectives of the club (with regard to our statutes) are:
- Practicing and supporting the traditional balloon sport
- Development of new equipment for ballooning
- Theoretical education and practical training of new pilots
- Organization of and participation in competitions
- Collecting historical material (equipment, instruments, texts, and
pictures) which can be used for the education and training
Pilots:
Balloons are not a personal private property but belong to the club
and during our weekly meeting pilots who want to fly put down the
balloon wanted and the chase crew members on a list.
Pilots participate in national (sometimes international) competitions
and in friendship meetings; some members are also very active as
observers in national and international ballooning events.
